Vol 3, Issue 1 - March 2004

Editors' foreword
CALL FOR PAPERS: SPECIAL ISSUE ON "VERTICAL INTEGRATION IN NETWORK INDUSTRIES"

We will have a special issue on "Vertical Integration in Network Industries." This issue will be edited under the auspices of the new Australian Centre of Regulatory Economics (ACORE) based at the Australian National University (ANU). The guest editor is ACORE's Director, Professor Flavio Menezes. If you have a paper, or are considering writing a paper for this issue, please send a proposed abstract to the guest editor ([email protected]), along with the likely timing and/or current stage of the paper. The deadline for the submission of the final version of the paper is September 1st, 2004.

Following the restructuring of the infrastructure sectors around the globe, a variety of new market architectures have emerged. These market architectures are still evolving and vertical relationships are either being developed or severed (naturally, or more commonly by regulatory intervention). This special issue of the RNE aims at focusing on the relationship between the broader literature on vertical integration and the specific characteristics of network industries. Papers with a specific policy focus and that are accessible to a wide audience will be preferred. Surveys of the vertical integration literature with particular emphasis on the implications for specific network industries are also welcome. All papers will be refereed and subject to the editor's decision.

Potential contributors are encouraged to browse current and previous issues of the RNE (www.rnejornal.com) for an overview of the style of papers accepted for publication. Potential contributors should use the Word template (downloadable from http://www.rnejournal.com/published.html) to write their papers.

Co-editors: John Panzar and Julian Wright
